Modern City Living Room

Whether you live in Charlie condos or in a small house in Kitchener real estate, having a living room which gives the impression of being a world apart can be an important touch. The city is a busy place, and having a room that gives the impression of being above or apart from the bustle that takes place day and night can do wonders for one's nerves.

That said, your definition of apart will depend on what type of house you have. We would usually recommend for any well used living space to have a lot of exposure to the sun. However, in a city, a house somewhere like Toronto townhouses might not be the ideal spot for a living room with a view. Tall buildings surrounding your home might block the sun anyway, and at best a second story living room would only slightly remove you from the action and noise of a place like Yonge and Eglinton.

In the case of a one or two story stand alone home, then, the key to comfort in a modern city living room will lie in physically separating your room from the streets surrounding your home. If you're living on Leaside real estate you probably encounter lots of noise that seems unavoidable. This might mean putting the living room in the basement, or tucked away in a corner of the house. Either way, don't neglect your lighting options. A lot of lamps and significant overhead lighting will compensate for the sun. You should also consider using plenty of colourful artwork along the walls and on the furniture to add a nice outdoors touch. A fish tank complete with some beautiful aquarium supplies will also add a nice touch.

A living room in a condo on Toronto's waterfront, for example, will give you another option when it comes to a relaxed space. Here, we definitely recommend situating your living room near to a window. You'll catch a lot of sun, and although you will be able to see the streets below quite clearly, there is a sense of being above, and therefore beyond, all the action of the city.

Open floor designs in condos are great, and you can still set your living room apart from the other room simply by placing your sofas and other furniture so that it forms a definite barrier. You might want to consider this if you're thinking of buying a condo for sale in Scarborough or elsewhere. This allows you to maximize the space you have, and also gives your modern city living room some more flexibility.
