When it comes to design and appearance, the way you perceive your house or about a Scarborough home for sale is often defined by how you feel about the kitchen and bathrooms. These two rooms are the most used by everyone of all the spaces in our houses, and for the widest number of activities. No wonder that in most households, from Port Credit homes to Whitby real estate, the kitchen and the bathrooms are undergoing almost constant renovations!

That might raise your eyebrows a little bit; you might be thinking "Now wait a second here, no one has taken a screwdriver or hammer into my bathroom for at least two years". Well, we say that renovations are not just about using tools; they are about making over a space within your house. And there are literally dozens of ways to redo your bathroom or your kitchen, without having to pick up a crowbar, wrench, or hammer. Completely replacing bathoom furniture vanities or gutting your King West condo's shower are not the only ways to redesign the space (though they are options).

Notice that we didn't say a paintbrush. What we are going to be talking about here are ways that you can give your bathroom a new feel and look without going into all the hardware and technical aspects involved. We will leave the new faucets and fixtures up to the handy people, and look at renovating these rooms with a minimum of technical savvy but with a great eye towards aesthetics. We want you to look at your bathroom and kitchen not as pieces of machinery that function combined with storage space, but as a statement about you and your home. One of the great things about these rooms is that they don't necessarily have to fit the outer style of your house; all they have to do is give an impression of what you think is funky, chic, or fashionable.

What we are going to do is give some ideas on just what cutting-edge concepts those with a real estate license in Toronto and across the country are seeing in terms of bathroom and kitchen decor, some great ideas that will help you add a touch of taste while still performing functions. Because let's face it, every single item you put in these rooms has a dual purpose, and space is limited.

The number of ideas and items that can be used to spruce up your kitchen or bathroom and make these rooms more usable, as well as simply staggering. You can focus on linens and colours, or turn your attention to paintings and trim. Everyone agrees that, in the bathroom in particular, colour co-ordinating is of the utmost importance, but what goes with what? Do you want a warm bathroom or one with a slick modern appeal (possibly with the inclusion of a modern glass vanity); or is it possible to have both?

What we have found in our quest for the perfect bathroom is that there are so many different ideas out there, it is hard not to try out a few different ones each year. If you were going to totally renovate one of these rooms that often, it just wouldn't be cost effective; the great thing about "cosmetic surgery" for these busy rooms is that often, you can freshen them up with minimum dollars invested.
